| The Shirley Collection The Gift Shop at Shirley Plantation has developed a whole new line of discriminating gift and souvenir items that feature renderings of the Great House and items from the collection. Profits from the sales of these items go directly to support the ongoing preservation efforts and educational mission of the Shirley Plantation Foundation. |

| Artwork for these items was created by LDA Creations and includes a toile design featuring the Great House at Shirley embedded with miniature portrait images of John Carter and Elizabeth Hill for whom the Great House was constructed in the early 18th century. This toile design has been transferred to 4” hand-decorated coasters in blue, brown, and hunter green, a blue thimble, a 7.5” octagonal plate in blue, and a matching coffee mug in blue. All of these items are hand-decorated in Virginia. LDA Creations transferred photography by Ed Dey of the animals of Shirley Plantation onto magnets including cats, goats, and chickens in creative designs and shapes. The magnets were handmade in Virginia. Two canvas bookmarks were designed by LDA Creations also. One features an aerial image of the historic area of Shirley Plantation overlooking the James River and the other features images by Ed Dey of the willow oak tree on the banks of the James River near the Great House during the four seasons. The bookmarks are handmade in Virginia. The collection at Shirley Plantation includes nine original Carter family eighteenth-century travel prints of the English countryside dating from 1745. The first to be reprinted onto canvas from photography provided by Ed Dey features A View in Lyme Park With the extraordinary Custom of driving the Stags; the property of Peter Legh, Esqr. This canvas comes with a card detailing its origin and is carefully reproduced on canvas, using the best archival materials available today and will resist fading for more than 100 years. This is available in two sizes ready to hang or to be framed. Additional travel prints from the family’s collection are scheduled to be reprinted in 2011. |
