CARTER’S MINT JULEP CUPS -VIRGINIA STYLE!
Virginians traditionally like their mint juleps in the style of old Virginia, in a beaker known as a “mint julep cup.” Now you can sip your mint julep like a true Virginian without the rocking chair on the veranda or the summer heat of the south Shirley Plantation, the oldest plantation in Virginia (1613), is offering such a cup as the first in a series of reproductions from the Hill Carter Family Collection.
Original sterling silver beakers at Shirley were hand wrought by London silversmith Francis Cromp in 1770-1771. These cups are crafted in pewter and, like the historic family collection, are reproduced in both engraved and plain styles. The current engraving has the combined family crests of the Hills and the Carters which form the Shirley Plantation logo. These pewter beakers were reproduced as a collector’s item, and the first 100 are numbered. They were presented for the first time for sale to the public on October 8, 2006.
Engraved cups - $40.00 Plain cups - $35.00
