Established in 2009 the Shirley Plantation Foundation is a pioneering project due to its distinctive organizational structure and agreements with the 10th and 11th generations of the Hill Carter Family of Shirley. Already garnering praise for its forward-thinking corporate structure, we invite you to take part in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to become a charter member of the Shirley Plantation Foundation. Charter memberships will be available until December 31, 2010. In the words of Randy Carter, one of the founding board members of the Shirley Plantation Foundation, “our donors and members provide vital support empowering our capability to educate the visiting public and preserve Shirley Plantation. My father, the late C. Hill Carter, opened his home to visitors in 1962 with the intention of having the property always open and available to the public. This foundation is the only financially feasible way to keep Shirley open for future generations of visitors.” The Shirley Plantation Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation dedicated to sharing the relevance of Shirley’s heritage through education, advocacy, and community involvement. The Shirley Plantation Foundation receives no regular local, state or federal support and sustains itself with membership and admissions revenue. Membership levels for the Shirley Plantation Foundation start as low as $40 per person and encompass a wide variety of benefits. Regular admission to Shirley plantation is $11.00 for adults and $7.50 for youth (6-18), with discounts for active-duty and retired military, seniors and AAA members. Shirley Plantation is open daily from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Shirley Plantation is located on Route 5, just 10 miles east of Richmond and 35 miles west of Williamsburg.
