Five Courageous Women
Women's History Tours at Shirley Plantation |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Discover how the women of Shirley Plantation changed history through their leadership, courage, intelligence and compassion. From March 1 - 31, 2012, thematic tours will bring to life the role of five courageous women in Shirley Plantation’s history and how they preserved, protected and guided the family farm through painful and challenging times. If not for the dedication, diligence, hard work and sacrifice of the women of Shirley, including those who were indentured servants and slaves, the history of Shirley Plantation would be very different. During the month of March, find out how the compassion of Mary Braxton Randolph Carter and the women of Shirley saved this plantation from plunder and destruction by the Union Army. Discover how two women of the 9th generation guided the property through both World Wars and The Great Depression. These are just two of the amazing women included in the “Five Courageous Women” thematic tour. The “Five Courageous Women” thematic tour is included with regular admission of $11.00 for adults and $7.50 for youths (6-18), with discounts for military, seniors, and AAA members. Shirley is located on Scenic Route 5, only 10 miles east of Richmond and 35 miles west of Williamsburg. For more information, visit our website at www.shirleyplantation.com or call 1-800-232-1613. |
