Cat Tales by Sugah
Fall 2011
Hey everyone! It’s your friend Sugah reporting from the supervisor’s office. Lately, I have been doing quite a bit of hunting, especially of small bunnies. I’m being kept in the office for a while to allow them to get to their winter burrows without interference from me. I’ve also been having a “spot” (Get it? It’s medical humor!) of trouble with my skin allergies. When I’m in the office, everyone can keep an eye on me. I had to take those icky steroids and antibiotics again this summer for my allergies. I am usually a sweet girl, but I’m not a very good patient, especially when it comes to taking medicine.
Tunnah went on another walkabout in August. She came back before Hurricane Irene. Everyone was glad to see her, even me. I think it would have been really scary to be outside with all that wind and rain. Plus, I was glad to have company when Shirley was closed to the public.
I can tell Tunnah has been enjoying her time outdoors. The weather has been glorious lately. Both of us have appreciated the cooler temperatures.
Being in the office has some advantages. I’m often the first…well, second after LaFawn, to know about new group reservations. They certainly have been pouring in lately. Perhaps they came in with the rain. With so many student groups visiting Shirley, we have to be sure they are treating all of us animals with respect. I’ll need to brush up on the information about the grounds so I can give stellar grounds tours… Once I’m allowed out of the office again, that is.
I heard that Kim wrote a blog about all of the animals of Shirley. We’re world famous! No wonder I’m constantly “catted” (some people prefer the term hounded) for my autograph. And now with our pictures featured on the admissions poster in the gift shop … we’ll need lots of pens.

Winter 2010
MBrrr. It’s the time of year for me to sleep in my basket… erm catch up on my paper work in the office. I’m sure Sugah will be taking up one of her usual perches in the gift shop soon, too. She has a lot of important merchandising to do.
I enjoyed walking down to the cemetery with Julian. Sugah tried to join us also, but I told her she had to stay in the historic area to keep an eye on things while I was on the tour. The visitors were quite enamored with my presence. I wasn’t really interested in them though. I wanted to hear more about mourning rituals from long ago. I had to bypass the group to get to the cemetery because they wouldn’t leave me alone long enough to hear the information. They were certainly surprised to see that I had gotten there before they did.
Are there any job openings on the plantation? I ask because Sugah is interested in becoming a grounds tour guide. I told her that guides are only necessary in the house and that Kim lady won’t let us in there. Sugah continues to lead visitors around the grounds especially on the nicer fall days. She even said she will work for tips: a mouse or squirrel would be great, but a pat on the head or scratch under the chin is acceptable also. Sugah promises that her grounds duties won’t interfere with her gift shop work. She says walking the grounds is a great way to stay trim. I, however, am quite content to put on my winter weight.
Sugah reports that she has seen some proofs of the animal magnets. I know they will have trouble narrowing down the choices. Anything with me on it will be absolutely “purrfect”. Sugah says that animal bookmarks are forthcoming also. With all this publicity, I’m going to need to sharpen my claws so I can get a firm grip on a pen to sign autographs. The life of a cat is so hard. *Sigh* Tell Sugah to hold my calls. I have an important meeting to attend…in dreamland.

Summer 2010
Meeeeeoooowwww! Sugah and I are starting to feel like cats on a hot tin roof around here! The summer sure is heating up fast. We don’t like that very much at all. We would really appreciate it if you could make sure we have plenty of cool water in our bowls upstairs. You could even put a few ice cubes in the water. Ahh! Refreshing.
We are now on a new diet for more “mature” cats. It’s important to mix our old dry food with our new dry food until we get used to the new food. Otherwise we may get sick. Please don’t put too many of our crunchies in the bowl. It’s so hot we don’t feel like eating much and all that leftover food will attract critters that we don’t want around here. I’m not sure I feel up to catching mice right now. Phew!
We have spent most of our time since the last newsletter lazing about so we don’t have a lot to report. Maybe once the weather cools down then we will be more active.
