Start a Family Tradition this Christmas
Christmas Open House and Holiday Tours at Shirley Plantation

Visit Shirley Plantation this December and start your own family tradition in a setting with centuries of Christmas family traditions. Take a break from trimming the tree, gathering the greens, and hanging the mistletoe to find out how one family has been celebrating the Holidays since 1651. Enjoy a visual feast for your eyes as every room in the mansion is decorated in the finest Christmas flare. Learn how family traditions have been passed down through eleven generations of the same family who still live at the plantation to this day.

At Shirley Plantation’s Annual Open House on December 3, 2011 enjoy this grand colonial plantation decked out with twinkling lights and joyous decorations on the inside and outside. Enjoy a guided house tour with one of our interpreters as they regale stories of Christmas past. Refreshments are available from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM on December 3.

From December 3, 2011 to January 6, 2012, visitors to Shirley will enjoy guided tours of the Great House featuring family Christmas stories dating back to the 1700s. Enter the original Kitchen building and you will feel as if you just interrupted the cook preparing a Christmas feast. In the other authentic outbuildings (circa.1730), exhibit panels, displays, and a timeline will satisfy your curiosity about the past while the gift shop will satisfy your desire for a one-of-a-kind gift for that someone special on your list. Shirley Christmas ornaments, toile plates, embossed wine glasses, and reproductions of the 18th century travel prints on display in the Great House are just a few of the many items found only at Lady Cessalye’s Shop. While in Lady Cessalye’s Shop purchase a copy of the Shirley Plantation booklet published last year and reserve a copy of the next two booklets in the Shirley series on military history and the history of women. Memberships in the Shirley Plantation Foundation are available and make great gifts for the history lover on your list.

There is no additional fee for the Open House or Christmas Thematic tours; all are included with regular admission. Shirley Plantation is open daily from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Regular admission is $11.00 for adults and $7.50 for youth (6-18), with discounts for AAA members, seniors and military.
