Self-guided grounds-only admission includes exhibits inside the Ice House and the Storehouse, the slavery exhibit located in the Kitchen Building, our Nature Walk Field Guide and Grounds Map, and the walking audio tour.

Directions and GPS Coordinates

Shirley is located in the heart of Virginia and within 15 minutes of Interstate 295 and Interstate 64.

Heading North into Virginia on I-85: Take I-85 North into Petersburg to I-95 North. Proceed on I-95 North to Route 36 East through Hopewell. Route 36 ends at Route 10. Turn right onto Route 10 East. Proceed on Route 10 East to the Benjamin Harrison Bridge (Rt. 106/Rt.156). Turn left onto Rt. 106/Rt. 156 towards the Benjamin Harrison Bridge. Turn left onto Route 5 West, Turn Left onto Shirley Plantation Road and follow the signs to the visitor parking lot.

Heading East into Richmond on I-64: Take I-64 East towards Richmond. Take I-295 South around Richmond. Take Exit #22A onto Scenic Route #5. Proceed East on Route 5 for 10 miles. Turn right onto Shirley Plantation Road and follow the signs to the visitor parking lot.

Heading West on I-64 from Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, and Williamsburg area (direct interstate route): Take I-64 West towards Richmond. Proceed on I-64 and take Exit #211 (Route 106 South). Follow Route 106 South to Route 5 West (approximately 15 miles). Turn Right onto Route 5 West. Proceed for a short distance on Route 5 West. Turn Left onto Shirley Plantation Road and follow the signs to the visitor parking lot.

From Williamsburg (scenic route): Take Route 5 West from Williamsburg. Proceed on Route 5 West. Turn Left onto Shirley Plantation Road and follow the signs to the visitor parking lot

From Richmond (scenic route): Take Route 5 East from Richmond. Proceed on Route 5 East. Turn right onto Shirley Plantation Road and follow the signs to the visitor parking lot
